Did you know that most coaches never get their social media or email sorted in a way that consistently gets them, clients?

And maybe you’re one of them.

You keep telling yourself you just need to post more, build up your followers and grow your list and you’ll have it all sorted.

But waiting for your followers and list to grow can take months (and years) to see any real action or engagement.

Meanwhile, you keep seeing those social media superstars get all the comments and likes in just a few short hours of posting…

And you start to wonder how on earth they are doing it, and try and replicate their results.

But this isn’t some easy hack. And that’s because it’s all about the kind of attention that comes from long-term relationship building.

And the simple fact is, they’ve earned it and you haven’t –  YET.

Perhaps you’ve been thinking you need to post 5 reels a day, or follow the followers of your competition and casually slide into their DM’s, or maybe you’ve tried going live every day with controversial opinions or tried sharing your deep dark secrets.

And all of those will help you flex your visibility muscle and help you make some headway, for sure.

And I don’t discourage any opportunity for you to show up online – whether it gets you a result or not.

But, if you’re spending a ton of time and energy either resisting showing up on social media or posting and sharing like crazy but seeing few results, it’s time for a rethink.

And that’s why in this episode I’m going to share 3 inconvenient truths many life coaches ignore while they spend countless hours trying to get traction on social media…

AND an approach that multiplies your efforts in way less time, even when social media hasn’t been bringing in new clients.

So the first truth is:

1. Using Social Media to get more coaching clients is a waste of time for most life coaches.

The big idea here is that the kind of connection and influence you need to build to get high levels of engagement and influence on social media can take at least a year or two to create.

And it also requires you have a great message to market fit AND a large audience.

And if that were the case, it would be like putting gasoline on the fire, but if you don’t have those things in place, then social media isn’t going to be what makes those things happen very fast.

This is important because most coaches don’t have the kind of time it takes to wait a year or more for paying clients, so they either spend a ton of time on social without seeing the results they’ve been hoping for or they give up and outsource or just post here and there which makes absolutely no difference at all.

Both ways result in similar outcomes and make it very easy to believe that social media only works for superstar coaches – think Simone Seol and Denise Duffield-Thomas

So there you are, beating yourself by comparing your reality to someone else’s and forgetting that they have already earned the influence you have yet to build.

And the simple fact is that trust takes time to build. It’s not an overnight win.

Social media needs a support structure to help you actually get more clients.

And that’s because social media does what email used to. It is the nurturer and connection piece, but there’s still room to go deeper and that’s why you need more than social media alone.

And that’s where the next rule comes in…

Because the second inconvenient truth that stops you from getting more coaching clients from social media is:

2. Social Media is not the place to make offers.

Sounds weird, right?

But making offers on social media falls flat without first creating connection, value and inspiration.

And don’t get me wrong, there are a few coaches who can get away with this but usually, they have a strategy that moves quickly to messaging and this is not for the faint-hearted!

It requires a way to connect that can sidestep the pushy nature of this approach.

And that means that your social media posts aren’t a great place to make offers, BUT email is.

There’s a common misconception that you can’t email your list too much, or that you have to wait to make offers to new subscribers to your list.

And if you’re not even sure what to write or how to share it with your list, nothing happens, so it becomes another thing that takes up your time without bringing a return.

The main thing to understand here is that while we all know that building an email list is vital to building a relationship with your audience, few coaches understand how to take the heavy-lifting out of what to do once someone is on your list… and how to effortlessly make the kind of offers that result in new clients.

But this is way easier to do when they have seen you on social first and you have a targeted lead magnet designed to build desire and inspire action.

Too many coaches are relying on a simple invitation to subscribe to your newsletter or are offering a flimsy lead magnet that delivers little value.

There’s a simple art to knowing exactly what to say, what to offer and how to show up with value in your style to your email list.

And when you do you can get more qualified client applications and grow your revenue faster than adding a few subscribers here and there and boring them with a weekly newsletter that gets very little response.

Because the third inconvenient truth that stops you from getting more coaching clients from social media is:

3. Keeping social media and email separate means reducing the power and opportunity of both platforms to grow your coaching business.

You want to combine them as one ecosystem instead, where you can automatically capture your perfect audience’s attention on social media with drool-worthy posts that breadcrumb to irresistible lead magnets they just can’t scroll past.

This will build your list with targeted leads, but you don’t stop there.

You then create automated and real-time follow-up using email sorting and sequencing that builds even more value but also makes offers at one of the best times to follow up – and that’s in the first week or two.

The key here is automation because you don’t want to be sending out these emails to everyone on your list and you also don’t want to have to reach out to every single person who subscribes manually.

And you certainly don’t want to rely on having to remember to send these out yourself or leave them until they open next week’s newsletter.

Segmentation and sequences have a compound effect on the connection and value you can create across both platforms so more offers are being made to the right people at the right time, without all the heavy lifting that manual posting and weekly newsletters alone can deliver.
